On May 17, 2025, a film screening event was held at the Gebrüder Schmid Zentrum in Stuttgart, Germany, co-organized by the Hongkonger in Deutschland Association (HKDE, Hongkonger in Deutschland e.V.) and the International Society for Human Rights (IGFM, Internationale Gesellschaft für Menschenrechte).

The featured documentary, “The Tank Man”, focuses on the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests. It centers on the iconic image of a young man holding shopping bags who repeatedly positioned himself in front of the approaching tank and blocked its advance. The film traces the full context of the movement through this powerful symbol. This unknown individual later became known as “The Tank Man.”

Christians from The Church of Almighty God (CAG) also attended the event to show their concern for human rights issues. Members of the peace movement in Stuttgart were also present for the screening.

Following the screening, participants engaged in a discussion on the culture of commemorating the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests, the significance of civic resistance, and the global impact of authoritarian rule.

After the event, the attendees gathered for group photos to commemorate the occasion.
